R56/2007 Optimist Club

Sure its different and new, and almost none of us have had the chance to actually see, feel, or drive it.

And even though I don't agree 100% with all of the changes, I also like a lot of them too.

Chances are that one day I'll need another MINI and it will almost certainly be one of these.

So count me as member #1 of the R56/2007 Optimist Club

Edit: Now we have badges!

O.K. then, put me down as #2 on the club list!

Say, do we get a badge with this club?

Are we this insecure about the R56 that we need a support group?

With all the positive reviews I think it's pretty clear it is what it is. The only thing we need to be optimistic about now it that it won't spend it's life getting things fixed.

Ooo! I want to join. I have no MINI, nor do I have one on order, so I would like a badge.

Hey, I'll join!!! Am I #7...or #5?

I'm not desperate enough to actually spec one since I'd determined to wait 'til '08...but I am a fan! Of, course, I will spec one and regret it as my nerves will fray, but what the heck!! It has been nice seeing Cooper reviews starting to filter out.

I'm not much of a Club guy, but I'd like to comment that my '06 is fabulous, especially with the mods I've done. I have no desire or need for anything else right now. The new gen appears to be fabulous too and some day I'll own one. However, it'll be a fifth year model....not the first. Been there.....and my '06 is far superior to my '02. How will the '11 compare to the '07?

Well after comparing it to the old Optimist badge from 5 years ago, it looks like an R56 to me...

Turbos always rule of superchargers.

And virtual clubs rock!

BTW, its really easy to tell the difference... One goes "whine", the other goes "Whoosh".

Great question. I love the fact that they were able to work out all the bugs in prior years so hopefully my 06 will be solid. As much as it can be fun to be the first one on the block to own a new car model, I have no interest in being a guinea pig. Besides my 06 looks amazing!

If only I could take credit for stuff like these neat badges, but they just appeared mysteriously in my mail box. . .

So I'll offer my thanks as well for these neat badges!

It's just hard to tell them apart. Incredible that the redesign caused so much hate and discontent, even though the R56 is hard for most people to tell from the R53.

It was a zillion times more fun owning an '02 as a first year model. No one had seen anything quite like it and it's curiosity quotient was through the roof. Now the Mini is pretty common and most won't know that there has been any change at all. Owning an '02 was a bit of a different story. However, I agree that the fun factor of owning the new '07 model just may not be worth it. On the other hand.....in another three years or so the new model will be absolutely incredible! How's that for optimism?

We all feel your pain. But if you want attention so desperately, maybe you need to get into show business. Or become a mad bomber.
You don't sound like an optimist, you sound like something else. Go buy a Ferrari Enzo, you'll have your curiosity quotient back. And you'll probably be a very broke center of attention.
