With the R56 MINI's coming out with its new direct injection and twin-scroll turbo how long before you start coming out with some products. Err, how many of you actually have an R56 on order? What will you work on first? I bet you'll have a lot more fun with the R56 as far as tuning than you did with the R53... but that's just me.. Other cars with turbos and direct injection (read Audi and VW) are getting some good power from simple bolt-ons...
Order books for U.S. customers won't open til Brit cars go on sale next month. I'm waiting to see how the car drives before I shell out any cash, rainy days do come. If I do get an R56 S (95% probability unless I get hit in the head w/ something), I'll keep the mods light; intake, air filter, might powdercoat the wheels, straight pipe(dont know how well that works in these cars, noise might be unbearable since the resonator sits not all that far from the back of your head), JCW brake kit upgrade, JCW carbon fiber add ons, PIAA bright white bulbs, and that's all I can think of for now. I don't plan on going crazy and I don't plan on doing this all at once, more fun to do it on your own over time. I'm also contemplating coilovers.
i asked a similar question on my thread, ( 1st car mini or wrx) its like in the 2 or 3rd page. they responded saying that they might have quick 3 inch catbacks and stuff, all that bolt on stuff. But check it out i forgot what it really said but it was somewhere near that.

and yes we do have one on order
What to mod
As a consumer, my wife and I have got a spot in line for an R56 S, but no order yet.
So far only a wheel/tire replacement seems in order, if only because current R56 wheels all look suck and we don't look forward to runflats. Heard some confusing musing by the White Roof Radio guys about 12mm vs 14mm wheel bolts limiting our wheel choices? Would like to hear more about that.
We're hoping to order with the Aero kit as I think it is the nicest looking body yet (R53 or R56), if it's available when we order. Lounge Leather looks like a good extention of the English Leather seats, or maybe the JCW seats shown on the Works site if we can get them. My wife really dug the form-over-function carbon front splitter seen on some R53's while at FireBall Tim's first car unvailings in the lot.
I prefer to leave engine/exhaust mods until a few years after the car rolls off the assembly line. It's a good way to breathe new life into your ride when you begin to check out other cars. With 175 ft-lbs. of torque at 1600 RPM., I have a feeling I'll be less worried about more grunt, and more concerned about maximizing fuel economy. Gas prices will spike a few weeks after the mid-terms are over in the U.S. In general mods for power will eat more fuel.
I'd love to have easily adjustable shocks. It looks like there are signs that the R56 MCS gets rocking brakes to start. Not a big fan of understrut bars and overstrut bars unless I can really feel a difference. If coilovers are the most cost effective way to lower and have adjustable shocks we might go that route, but I'm not anxious to undo the work that Mini clearly put into refining it. We have a 2000 BMW Z3 2.3, and that car performs remarkably well on autocross course without any suspension mods. I can only imagine the '07 MCS may be similar, but if it takes a sway bar or adjustable shocks to help make the car more neutral, I'd be willing to try it.

I will be getting a new S in about a year - my current car will have about 130k miles by then. I will order an S with no options other than LSD and put in coilovers, sway bar, control arms, cat-back, CAI and as much extra engine power as is available. Last time I waited a year before doing upgrades. Next time they will be done within a month!
One option I would pay not to have is DSC - it is a real pain the way it cuts engine power as soon as there is hint of wheel spin.

Well since fuel prices are a commoditiy and traded on a "global" market, then brought here and traded again in the US's commodity market. I would allow this to be a factor in my decision making.
