2007: 50 mpg?

The British (I think) web site listed the 2007 Mini as getting 50 mpg on the highway...no, that was not the diesel, and it appeared to be the same engine we are getting here (I'm speaking of the non turbo version of course)

Anyone know if the U.S. model will spec out the same?

If I'm not mistaken it is referring to something over there called imperial gallons. They are bigger than U.S. gallons hence more MPG. I know its wikipedia but its the first link that came up and it will give you the basic idea...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallon

While I've heard the mileage would be higher in the 07s I can't possibly imagine it would be anywhere close to 50. I'm guessing highway around 40-42...

I used a conversion web site that took liters/100km, and converted it into miles per gallon, and the highway mpg figure came out to 50+.

I can only assume the web site did the conversion correctly:

http://www.onlineconversion.com/fuel_consumption.htm

Imperial gallons were never involved.

the MC will get around 50+ highway but the MCS will get 41 highway, according to the mini international site! It also claims that city mpgs for mcs will be 26-27, thats a pretty big delta from 26 city to 41 highway, eh?

Imperial gallon is 1.2 US Gallons.

41 highway in the UK = 34 in the US

41 US MPG = 49+ Imperial MPG For UK MCS found on the UK site.

Translating MPGs ratings from UK to US figures are similar but not the same. The new MC's engine is pretty sophisticated but a real world 50MPG needs to be proven.

It appears that way since the 40-50 figures ARE recalculated from imperial TO US... The UK figures were like 49 and 60-something, and converted it's 41 and 51.... I bet it will be a bit lower though when the EPA goes through all it's stuff. I don't think a basic 'conversion' is always the case... I'm guessing upper 30's MCS and upper 40's MC - which is still a lot more than now, but still...

The 50MPG is the EU highway test. I think it may be steady state 90KPH (56 MPH). Has anyone dared drive the current MINI that speed on the highway to see what the economy is?

Like I said, imperial gallons were never part of the equation...the conversion went from liters/100km to MPG.
