Have fun with that. I was one of the people on the bleeding edge in 2002, so you owe me.

I'll thank you for it though when my R55 JCW comes in.

the CD player is in the center stack on all the models ... but there seems to be an additional control panel on the NAV equipped models below the CD player ... instaed of the solo, silly looking volume button.

Official (MINI.com) Exterior Pictures, you kinda have to look in a semi-secretive location to find them:

From what I see I like the seats, but there is no really good pic of them. I love the black interior bits, tach, wiper stalks and such. I hate th center console! Looks as if the legos are just floating there. It is missing something. Gives me a product idea...

Sorry folks, looks more and more like a sedan. The window relationship to the side of the car is reduced, and the rear end is boxy. Can't get enthused about the aesthetics at all. Should have just put 4 doors on it and let it go as a sedan. Did they increase the nose? Looks bigger and the rear airfoil appears to have lost it's scuplted appearance. I will stay committed to my 2006 model. You are all correct on the mundane 'toy-like- appearance of the radio stack.

something looks really odd about the photo above ... all the pics I have seen of the new MCS make it look "lifted" ...

It looks really ugpraded and modern and very mainland european!!! wow!

that means: it sux

I bought my 06 this week. just in time to give me a retro look.

thumbs down on losing the whole concept of the car and making it just a nice looking small quirky car. I hope mine never wrecks. I wouldnt havea clue as to what I would replace it with.

Well, if you hit someone head on, it rips off your nuts. This stops you from reproducing, which is possibly a good thing as anyone who would buy this car right now over an 06 should consider not. It also makes you like the new look more as it completely has lost its own ***** as well.

I saw that and was like DANG! OUCH! no chillin in that seat.

From the Frankfurt Concept

The speedo ring being on the outside with something on the inside (that turned out to be the NAV unit) was present. For that matter the NAV UNIT layout was hinted at in the Tokyo concept.

Looking back on the Frankfurt Concept now, I wish the center stack on the R56 had adopted the Concept layout for the A/C controls, and that the R56 had the cleaner center stack that lacked the heavy handed MINI logos.

It looks great to me, I want one.

Noticed most people are coming around on the new design.......pretty soon the only people who will still hate it are those who just bought an 06.

Looking for a used MINI, there're about to flood the market.

Haha, that's a bit harsh. I reckon 50%+ of non-MINI owners would barely tell the difference between the two cars.

This is beginning to sound as bad as when BMW announced the redesign of the Classic Mini

I agree. I was going to say I don't think they're all that different. I like both.

Me, too....some folks don't like change (and have darn good reason for it, too!), but in this case I think BMW's done a fine job. That doesn't mean there aren't things I still really like about R53...why not?....but this is the next iteration of the MINI and I think it's a good one.

Looks are one thing, though........at this point I'm sure we're all eager to get behind the steering wheel and see how the car performs as a whole. If it is as good as some reports indicate, a page will have turned in MINI history and R53 will be a fond, and venerable, memory.

Me, too.

Some fun movies up on the international MINI site:

http://www.mini.com/com/en/new_mini_cooper

http://www.mini.com/com/en/new_mini_cooper_s/

(In the S movie, place your cursor inthe sharks mouth once the guy leaves and see what happens. There are quite a few actions if you keep watching and try clicking your mouse on certain items in both movies).

I like both too. Although I hurriedly ordered my 2006 because I initially disliked the rework of the 2007 interior, I think they are going to do a great job with the new colour line concept (5 colors for armrest and lower instrument panel ), plus 4 new door panel colors. I think the new Cream white with Piano black looks particularly good. Anyone else notice the return of the two spoke steering wheel?

has the scoop on the four new interior worlds, five colour lines and upholstery (Cosmos Cloth, Gravity Leather, Punch Leather, Lounge Leather and Ray Cloth/Leather
