Actually there are cheaper cars that hav better features! That new Nissan Versa is going to have the 'detecting' type key where it detects the key in your pocket and then unlocks the car, etc. Ok, so it's not standard, but it is there

Intelligent Key Keyless Entry System
With the Intelligent Key in your pocket or purse, just walk up to your Versa and press the button on the door or hatch and it instantly unlocks for easy access. Now slide into your oversized driver's seat, turn the ignition, and you're off—all without ever using a key.

Not so great

It would be cool if it was wireless like the Toyota Prius or Mercedes. The way it is it just seems lame and pointless. The redesign except the engine blows.

The international MINI site I was looking at yesterday seemed to suggest that it will be possible to start your MINI with the key in your pocket (although it also suggested that such a feature might cost extra)

From my understanding: The stock key is one that must be pressed into a connector. The convenience package will allow you to both start the car and open doorswith the key in your pocket and possibly remotely? although I dont know the details on that as far as distance.
