Looks like the MC has some kind of hideous growth on its hood.

Judging by the white sidemarkers with an S - I would say those are MCS turbos....

Only 170hp? not much of a gain. Better off getting one before they do that awfull hood thing to the mini. Just by paying about 7k you can get the mini up to like 260hp thats a little bit more then there so called "turbo" 170hp.

I'm going to preempt Cooper4us on this one , and point out that these are very early pre-production versions for testing purposes, not what will be in the showrooms next year. I foresee unpleasant changes, but not this bad.

Give MINI some credit!

All those photos are utter rubbish! The true looks of the cars have been hidden behind all of the junk they've installed just to disguise them. I've actually seen the next MINI in person (and got to sit in it too!) and so I can tell you first hand that it doesn't look anything like the ones in those photos.

the turbo*charged engine promises a big improvement in driveability and power delivery over the current supercharged setup.

I guess "big improvement" means 2hp over at autoweek!

Granted a turbo means bigger hp gains usually, but that also includes a new turbo most times. I'll still take the SC, but it also means that stock turbo parts for the mini will start showing up in junk yards in a couple years

Rumors of a switch to twin headlights have been rudely squashed by insiders.

Take a good look at these two articles on Motoringfile as they describe the new MINI almost EXACTLY as I saw it:

http://www.motoringfile.com/2005/03/..._mini_revealed

http://www.motoringfile.com/2005/03/...minis_interior

As far as the exterior goes, the average person on the street will never be able to tell they've changed (only the hard-core MINI enthusiasts will be able to tell). I thought that the exterior looked really good (and the Cooper S looked totally AWESOME!). The interior's another story though (it's going to take a wile to "grow" on me ). And yes, the photos in the Motoringfile articles depict the interior EXACTLY as I saw it in real life.

I hope this helps some...

That hood bulge really ruins the lines (and I thought the current MINI Cooper S was bad with that intake).

Headlights...well, I could get used to them I guess. Still looks worse than the 2002-2006s.

The hood bulges look fake to me. And the grills don't match the pics from motoringfile.com site.

that hood was ugly. i seriously hope that they dont do that. if my modder guy can cram a turbo in there next to the super, mini can mount the turbo alone w/o having to add some ugly thing to the hood.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned how OLD those pictures are. They've been around for what, 6 months?????

I was waiting for someone to mention that They actually surfaced over a year ago in another publication. These are obviously cold weather testing mules. They're simply current MINIs with the new engine tucked away in them. In order for the new engine to fit they had to fit the ungainly hood. Obviously something that looks like that would never see production.

But just wait... this exact same story will re-surface six months down the road. In the meantime those that really want to know what's going on with the next MINI should follow Mike's advice and check out this article: http://www.motoringfile.com/2005/03/..._mini_revealed

I don't like the 07s.

From all the information that is floating around I hope none of it's true, though most of it likely is. They are making it bigger and redoing the interior.

The whole appeal to the Mini is it's small size. The interior is appealing due to it's novelty look and cheeriness. From what I've seen and heard of the new interior... Disappointing.

I'm about to get my first car and could wait to get a Mini but I don't want to miss out on getting one of the current Minis as the 07s are probably going to ruin Mini. The Minis are hot right now and imo, they should leave them as they are until the appeal wears off on it's own. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Just thinkign if I should get a 05 model or wait until the end of summer for a 06 with whatever special package they'll offer.

Get over the hood bulge already! Those are just test mules, NOT the '07 MINI.

that interior shot at motoring file is pretty hot. it looks like they streamlined it down to really look like cockpit now. from the picture the materials look of better quality, but that could just be wishful thinking.

exterior should be second place to...

...whats under the bonnet!

I'm just not sure about this (Pooh-joe) Motor...As I've read, ""Whens the last time you heard of anything good coming from (Pooh-Joe) ""???

Besides that, in a MotorTrend mag I read that "in an effort to reduce cost" they will be removing the independent rear suspension... ohhh, BUT, it will still maintain its great handeling characteristics... ummm, That will be quite the feat.
