You clearly had both a bad starter and a bad ground strap. You could start by thoroughly cleaning the ground strap contact points and the corresponding OEM block and chassis contact points and hope for the best.

This bolt/nut combo is pure rust. I think this might be the entire problem!

Definitely clean it up so that shiny metal makes contact with shiny metal. Do the same at the other end of the strap. Good luck!

When the crank issue is fixed, make sure to use a scan tool to register the new battery so that your electrical system can work as BMW intended.

Is this even where I am meant to mount the ground strap? I believe when we reassembled the car the first time it was mounted to the next slot towards the camera… that leads nowhere though.

You have a 2009 N14, and I have a 2012 N16, so I don't know if this picture of my N16 ground strap will help you. --> Chassis to engine mount connections

Yep, that’s where mine goes as well, nice stud chilling there wide open…I’ll move it there tomorrow.

It’s running now but still has issues. Going to start a new thread about it tomorrow, stay tuned lol… has a vacuum leak I was working on before this all started.
