R56 Single mass flywheel
Single mass flywheel
Hi,
I have a 2011 Mini Cooper S with the N18 engine and about 75k miles. I removed the transmission to install a LSD and realize that the clutch is shot with the disc being worn almost flush with the rivets, it also has play in the DM flywheel. Since it did not slip or shudder, I was not really expecting having to replace it.
The plan was to install the LSD and get a 2nd stage tune from Lou (larger intercooler, AEM intake and eventually Meth-injection).
I find out that those clutches are freakin' expensive. I should specify that I live in Canada so even buying from the US kills my budget.
The question is, with a LSD and stage 2, what choices do I have to replace the clutch while being easier on my wallet?
I would like to convert to a SM flywheel but don't mind a DM flywheel if it can take the increased torque and is budget friendly.
So I have several choices:
- Valeo SM flywheel conversion clutch kit. But I am not sure it's recommended for a stage 2 car
- Southbend stage 2 clutch (no flywheel though)
- Clutchmasters kit FX250 , about 2000 CAD, being already over my budget but can stretch it.
- OS Giken, more than the clutchmasters so I can only dream about it for now.
My idea was to get a Southbend stage 2 but I don't know what flywheel to choose.
Who makes a decent flywheel for less money than the Clutchmasters and that has the timing hole?
Do the Luk or Valeo SM flywheels have the timing hole?
Can I use the flywheel from a N14 engine?
Thanks
