Stiff / Heavy Clutch

Hi looking for some advice on a heavy / stiff clutch on an R56 ~100k miles.

Not sure of the service history but would guess the clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, fork are original and not been replaced.

Trying to understand if the clutch is normally heavy / stiff or if a part or parts are failing in the assembly?

I’ve looked at part diagrams and can see it has external slave cylinder and also another cylinder / piston at the clutch pedal end.

I’ve not checked the condition of these or bled the hydraulic system.

Currently just investigating and understanding what may or may not have failed.

Thanks

Is the clutch/brake fluid low and/or look cloudy?
Is gear shifting difficult? Do you hear grinding noises when shifting?

I will need to check the condition of the brake fluid. Are you suggesting it has degraded? I know brake fluid is hydroscopic so absorbs water and degrades over time.

Shifting of gear is ok and no grinding noises.

If the fluid is old, cloudy, or discolored, flush the hydraulic system. Rule out all the simpler stiff clutch explanations (fluid, master and slave cylinders) before dropping the transmission.

Original clutch or replacement clutch N14 cars in 2007-2010 had factory stiff clutches. Then MINI superseded the clutch to the JCW part number if i remember. Lots of people were complaining about harder. This it if everything else above checks out ok.
