Base Hatchback Water Pump Replacement

I am trying to replace the water pump, thermostat and pulley system by going in thru the wheel well. I need a tool to get to the third bolt in the tensioner. It needs to be very thin. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm at a loss.

Use a floor jack, with a block of wood under the oil pan, and disconnect the right engine mount to lower the engine down slightly. Or, you can get a nice 10mm ICON wrench from Harbor Freight. Their ICON series tools are very good!

I just replaced the water pump on my base model. I was able to get it done just through the wheel well with patience and a nice thin wrench. It sure wore the hell out of my hands but it got done. Just do a little at a time until it’s tight and then one it’s tight, get the wrench on once more and using another longer skinny wrench as a pry bar on the end of the main wrench to get it nice and tight.

it can be done just a pain in the ***.

Yep you can go through that wheel well and use a floor jack and prybar with wood to move the engine a little when needed. The pulley and bolts on the waterpump are the hardest, i used a prybar with wood and jammed the wood a little to give me a little more room.
