Cannot unlock the secret menu

Hi,

I own a 2012 Mini Cooper base, and I am trying to access the secret menu to monitor the coolant temperature.

I watched several Youtube videos where they explain how to unlock the secret menu, but it's not working for me.

This is what I am doing:
- I turn the engine on
- I press the reset button on the odometer for 10 seconds
- When I see my VIN number, I go to menu 19
- The menu shows "Lock:ON Code:00"
- I enter my code, which is the sum of the last 5 digits on my VIN (23 in my case)
- When I see "Lock:ON Code: 23" I press the reset button for 2 seconds
- The display becomes blank for 1 second and then the display still shows "Lock:ON Code: 23"

How do I turn off the lock?
Why is the lock still ON after I enter the correct code?

Thanks!

Perhaps I am misunderstanding what you are referring to, but I had to monitor my coolant temps in my R56 before and I was able to do so with an OBDLink+ BlueTooth dongle. I didn't have any special secret menu and in fact have never heard of that before. I used the paid version of the Torque app on my phone.

There is indeed a secret menu (at least on the US version). The mistake I was making is that after you enter the code, you need to press the button for ~10 seconds.

Ok, well TIL...I had to go to go to YouTube to look this up because I legit had never heard of this before! It is a cool thing to be able to do, though, I'd say an OBD2 dongle with realtime monitoring i probably quicker and better, but still cool you an do that.
