R56 Valve Spring compressor tool
Thanks!
I'm also getting list of parts for the job. Am I missing anything?
11340033950 - Valve stem seals Corteco
11341438142 x 4 - Valve keepers x 4 (just in case if it flies out)
11367536087 x 2 - Timing Chain Sprocket T50 bolt
11317631972 - Timing Chain tensioner washer
11127582400 - Valve cover gasket Elring

I am a fan of the felpro seals. Also, make sure you have a cam locking tool for when you put it back together. You'll want an air compressor to keep the valves from falling through. I was not a fan of the rope method. Also, I used a small flat tip with a bit of grease on the end to place the collets on the valves. Take your time, plug all gaps in the head (lost a collet), and make sure you have good and STABLE leverage on the spring before removing the spring. Once you get the hang of it, the rest of the job is easy. Also, why not replace the timing chain when you're in there?
Thanks.
Yes. I already have n18 timing tool and air compressor.
As for the timing chain... I'm still debating whether to do it or not... I know this is def good time, but I don't have much time either..
For the timing chain, I have the following parts lined up.
11317577301 Chain guide
11317533879 Chain guide
11317577631 Upper guide rail
11318618318 Chain
11317550461 Gasket ring
11317534770x2 O ring
11217616164 Crankshaft bolt
11117568264 Crankshaft seal
11287604014 Belt
While replacing the timing chain, is it essential to replace belt tensioner and friction wheel? Those aren't cheap.

I don't see the camshaft sprocket bolts.
1. Rather than the ECS package, I bought the engine parts from the dealer. Yikes. That was expensive. I notice that the ECS package uses the factory timing chain tensioner though.
2. I also purchased the camshaft alignment tools. I think you will need them. Very fancy but not that expensive.
3. I also purchased the front main seal installer tool though you might install it with a big socket or pipe just fine without the tool.
4. I also purchased the Valvotronic spring tool but it was really expensive and I saw a video where a guy installed them with a modified screwdriver.
5. I also purchased a kit that included a crankshaft tool. It included other items but I just needed the crankshaft tool as the crank bolt is really tight.
6. One mistake I made was not removing the dipstick. It goes through the timing chain guide rail. That will not come out until the dipstick is out.
Good luck,
Peter
