R56 Car shaking and sputtering
Car shaking and sputtering
So I was on my way home, went to accelerate and bam… mini takes a dump. Car is sputtering and sounds like a little helicopter. You can hear it out of the exhaust… like poo poo poo poo poo poo and it only gets worse as I accelerate. The entire engine is shaking now.
I’ve had a check engine light that leaves and comes back (P054B camshaft position sensor cold-start retarded bank 1) and have yet to install a new VANOS solenoid.
I also haven’t upgraded or changed my coil packs in 85,000 miles. And I’ve modded it. I don’t even know where to start someone please help.

From your other posts, you have a 2013 R56? I would worry less about the timing chain.
If the vanos solenoid goes out, the cam will not be in the correct position, which will cause stumbling and drivability issues, especially on the N18, which uses vanos to control the intake phasing instead of a throttle plate.
The N18 has two vanos solenoids: intake and exhaust. I would replace them both as cheap insurance / maintenance. Replace both solenoids, clear the codes, see if that helps or brings up more codes, and go from there.

I don't know about cheap....OEM part is showing $207 at ECS. Is aftermarket ok for this part?
I used these from RockAuto:
