R56 How to test for lower end damage?
How to test for lower end damage?
Hola Amigos!
I've got a 2009 Cooper S Hatchback with 90,000 on the clock. It jumped time, bent valves, the usual N14 sob story.
I've pulled the head and am about to send it to a machine shop for a new set of valves, but my question is how do I check to ensure there's no damage to the bottom end of the engine?
The piston's look fine, except for way too much carbon build up on the piston. The crank turns smoothly. When I did a compression test, adding oil to the cylinder did help raise compression, but only by a tiny bit.
How else would one test to ensure there aren't issues in the bottom end that'll come back to bite me after I put her back together?
Question #2:
Can anyone recommend a quality gasket set? It seems buying a set is a lot cheeper than getting them individually, but I'm not familiar enough to know which are any good and which are garbage. I mean, I'm trying to save money, but I"ll pay the freight for something decent, I'm just not trying to get robbed.
Thanks Much!
