R56 2013 Cooper S Battery Not Charging.
Ok, I opened the bleeder screw, started the engine with the coolant cap off and coolant began to come out. Let the expansion tank run down a couple inches then refilled it. Repeated this 3 or 4 times then tightened the bleeder screw, put the cap back on and test drove it. It overheated again. When it was overheated no coolant was leaking out. The coolant level had risen to the top of the expansion tank and there was a faint hissing coming from the cap. Now I'm at a loss because it was not overheating before I took it apart to replace the alternator.
So I decided to check the water pump and it turns out I didn't replace the little **** you pull to relieve the pressure on the belt. Rookie mistake! All is fine now. Engine cooling properly.
