2010 S Hatch

Hello everyone,

Bought a used Mini, 2010 S 6 speed with 78k Miles. Had no knowledge about the cars at all. A Week later, the Timing Chain went bad, leaving me stranded. After a estimate of about $2500, I decided to get the tools and Youtubed it. Me and the Old Man got it done. Chain replaced, dropped the oil pan and got out all the broken pieces from the rail guide. Thankfully the chain did not break and only slipped off on of the sprockets. While we had the engine torn apart, we replaced the Water Pump, the Sparks, added a K N cool air intake system and upgraded Intercooler. Changed the oil, and drained and refilled the coolant. This was completed over about 5 weeks, since the car was at dads, about 100 miles away. Started the car up, on the 1st try. Let it run for about 45 minutes, checked for leaks, etc. Took it for a small ride, about 4 miles. Car ran great and smooth. About 2 hours later, the car no longer started. No Crank, No start. Rushed a diagnostic tool there overnight, since the Check engine light now was on. Got engine codes A0B4, Engine Start, starter operation, A0C1 Output Terminal 50 and A0C2 Output, Terminal 50 RS. The next time I was down, I replaced the starter. Still no luck.

Cant really find what those codes mean online. Through NAM, some posters have said it could be the CAS or the ECU. So, I tore the dash apart and got the CAS out and the ECU from the engine. I mailed them and 2 keys to ECU PRO in PA. They tested them within an hour of receiving them and sent the video of the test. They hooked them up to their Mini and both were found to be operating normally. They said I should probably check my wiring. No idea what wiring should be tested.

When I go down this weekend, I am going to check out the very large Earth Strap ground. At this point, I am out of options at home and I really do not want to have it towed 148 miles away to a Mini Dealer. Any ideas out there? This car has become a money pit and will be darn near brand new once or if I get it running again.

Thanks,

Rob from Delaware

Unfortunately I'm too new to have any knowledge, but I will say that surely there must be a European auto specialist somewhere closer than 148 miles? Or maybe I'm spoiled by living in the 4th largest metro in the U.S. (Houston). Remember, it's mostly BMW, so a shop that specializes in BMW will likely also do Mini Coopers.
