R50/53 Key fob
You're posting in the 2nd gen R56 sub-forum but "assume" 1st gen R50/R53 from topic. Have you already split the plastic fob case to expose the circuit board electronics? If not, watch this video to see "what's inside" and then proceed carefully to avoid damaging the circuit board. From that, it appears to me that the bottom fob shell half is bonded to the hidden end of the key shaft where plastic pin engages through hole in that shaft (shown 3:26 mins in) If you're replacing the fob case with aftermarket, google for warnings about finding and moving the EWS sensor which is quite small. Without that in place, your key won't start the car and pretty much useless...
