Hello,
someone has any suggestions about Intercoolers for my Cooper S R56?

I found the MTC Intercoolers, but not much to them. Someone has any ecperience with them or the Airtec Intercoolers? I dont wanna pay like 700-800 Euro just for a Intercooler. MTC ist like 200€ und Airtec 350€

 

The g plus one works well, just like a Wagner. Try to find one that looks like this, , as you can see they are out over here. You might have better luck where you are.

 

Where are you from? Im from germany and just got the German expensive ones. Or i could buy one from Aliexpress, but taxes etc and the lack of knowledge how good they are, makes me ignore it.

How much did you pay for the G Intercooler? I searched a bit and there is no chance if getting one 😭

 

ebay for $143 shipped and it was the last one this company up in Dayton, oh had. I live in Cincinnati oh USA. You want one that looks like the one I post from Amazon. The other knock offs won’t work as well. Feel free to post any eBay links, I’m sure I know what version you are going to send me. Alibaba worked well for me, downpipe was 100 shipped.

 

But the downpipe you have bought there, doesnt have a cat right? Its a little bit problematic to drive in Germany without a catalysator. If the cops see this, they will take the car for a expensive control.

Yes it has no cat, no emission where I live, but that’s wasn’t the point of my post. My point was I have successfully used alibaba and got a quality product that I haven’t had an issue with, for way less than what some of these manufacturers are charging. The g plus one has been rumored to be a Wagner with the logo sanded off. There are post on this forum about it.

I too bought a unit from ebay about a year ago. It was a huge boost in performance - best bang for the buck ever! Anyway - I'm all about quality parts when it comes to my engine, brakes, etc... it's my life on the line! However, the intercooler has no moving parts, nothing to break. It's a metal box, air flows through it, hopefully cooler air when it exits... that's it. Don't worry about it. 20 minute install. $150. That's it! LOL

Just install one and enjoy the ride!!! Good luck!

Thanks for all the tips. But i think im going to sell my Cooper S. I have a lot of oil issues with the car and found a clip that describes all my problems on the car. My piston rings are worn out and i wont pay another 2000-3000 to let that fix. Time to say goodbye and get a shitbox

 

If it where me, there would be an engine in my dining room and it would be getting rebuilt. But not all of us are this nuts and dining room never gets used anyway. You said that you are across the pond, there have been a bunch of R53s that have popped up on my Facebook over there. I would try to find an 05 or 06 that is in good shape.

I dont have any capacities etc to rebuild a engine. Neither i have the specialtools etc. I looked for the parts and that is like 1000€. And im not satisfied with the quality of the R56 Cooper S.

Oil on the valves, high pressure fuel pump, the oil cooler is like a Joke. Timing chain Problems and gaskets. Its really a fun car and i like the car, but the quality issues suck. My M3 is not even expensive as this car to maintain. And i already let the engine rebuild when i bought the car. It got a new cylinder head, timing chain, valve cover and every gasket without the Turbo ones and the piston rings. Everything else is new on this car. Even the suspension etc.

Sometimes you just gotta say stop and move on.

So it would just cost me another 1000 for the piston rings install and mainbearings etc, because of lack on tools and knowledge and a Garage or capacity in the house. Than the stress without having a car for a week. I need a daily car and dont have the chance to miss my car for a week or 2.

 

wow been looking for an intercooler post for about 2 weeks now.

I have a 2013 R56s (with jcw aero package) and just worried i have to cut into my bumper and crash bar. I see alot of posts like these

 

I didn’t have to cut anything with my g plus intercooler.

 

yeah this is the one i ordered yesterday. g plus intercooler for 2010+.

i tried to make sure that 2013 models were included, because of the lower crash bar and fitting issues. If i dont have to cut anything ill be more than ecstatic. thank you
