Happy 4th! Just wanted to drop and introduce myself. My wife and I owned a 2008 Cooper when I was stationed in Germany many years ago. She's been in love since, she has been wanting one the last 6 months so she picked up a 2013 6-speed Cooper S for $9k with 80k on the clock. It sits on aftermarket wheels and Pirelli P-Zeros
Aside from being a good looking quirky little car that I remember, I had a few questions. She wanted to do the work and test drive and buy it, I drove it and immediately noticed a few things:
1) I think it's lowered, with the bright blue springs
2) The steering wheel offers a very slight vibration once it hits about 35mph (not sure if it's due to being lowered or just needs an alignment)
3) I can't tell if it's been tuned, but when in sport mode and you get on the gas and let off or put it in neutral you hear some decent popping from the exhaust
4) Oil catch can, not sure why or just because
5) My biggest "worry" is I swear it has a BOV. My wife drives to where it's hardly noticeable, when I drive, regardless of sport mode or normal, anything 2nd gear and higher when throttle is pushed hard I hear the telltale "pssssh" coming from what sounds like the front left.
From my brief bit of research I've seen that venting to atmosphere in these guys isn't the best...outside of that it's just annoying with how loud it is. I live near Raleigh and found a shop that I am going to take it to just to get it a once over. Aside from my little list, it is solid, no rattling, no issues with anything. I did forget how odd the radio is with USB so I have the splitter.
OCC is recommended to reduce carbon buildup in the intake valves. As for the blow off noise I have a panel filter that gives me the same effect so it might not be a BOV. Also the K&N sticker on the filter cover could be a sign there's a K&N air filter under there. The popping is standard in sport mode from the factory.
