R56 Air leak into foot well
Air leak into foot well
I have a 13 Cooper that I just picked up, and I have outside air coming into the drivers footwell when I’m driving. It’s not from the a/c fan it’s definitely from outside. I’ve looked in the engine compartment for an opening on the firewall but as you know not a lot of view in there, anyone have any clues?
Things that I can think of to check -
-make sure it isn't coming in through the weather seal around the door
-it could be a very poor installation of a windshield
-they designed an opening in the metal firewall for wires to pass through on the driver side (there's one on the passenger side as well). It's a good design, but if someone added some wires or a line for a boost gauge they might not have re-sealed it properly. You have to remove the cowl to get to it, which requires removing the windshield wiper. This isn't a big deal of you have the wiper puller tool.
Let us know if you have questions or what you find!

Check if someone did a noisemaker delete . There is a connection right in front of the driver on the firewall that sends sound into the cabin. If they removed it and didn't seal off the opening there may be air infiltration coming through there.
Well, seems like this is the culprit, anyone have a clue where to get a grommet or plug?
