Manual transmission differences (Cooper S)

Does anyone know the difference between them pre and post facelift? I see listings for 07-10 and 11-14. They use the same axles, clutch and shift linkage per Rockauto.
As far as I can tell the bolt pattern is the same. Has anyone used a newer or older manual trans in their Cooper S?

That's when they switched from the N14 to the N18 engine so it's likely the gear ratios are a little different to better suit the torque curves of each engine.

I suspected it was just a gear ratio change. But they should bolt up the same, right?

I think they are mechanically interchangeable, but not sure about the neutral and reverse switches... I know here were minor revisions to the shifter linkages, but I believe the shift cables are the same.

If you’re asking due to marketing reasons, just list it for what it is, and let the buyer figure it out. You’ll be limiting your target market, but it’s less you’ll have to worry about.

I have done that but I have multiple people asking about the newer Mini fitment. It seems they are interchangeable, all listed as GS-53BG. Surely someone has tried this.

Realoem is showing the same exact trans for the N18 and N14. The Bentley manual also shows the same trans for the N18 and N14, with the same gear ratios as well. The n12 and n16 use a different trans with longer gears.
N18 trans= https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=23_1049
N14 trans= https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=23_1049

The actual gearbox is the same, but real OEM lists different part numbers, so there are slight differences. While they may be mechanically interchangeable, there may be minor differences that may or may not work, depending into which car they are installed. If he is selling his used gearbox, he should just be clear from which vehicle it came out, and let the buyer determine compatibility.

I have been clear about it. I am trying to help buyers figure this out. Everyone is apprehensive about different part numbers. There are 5 different part numbers just for the 07-10 Cooper S, yet we know all they interchange. The neutral switch is the same on the newer cars btw. Whatever the slight difference is, no one seems to know. I've got a message out to WayMotorWorks, maybe he's done this.

I think you're putting too much work into it. Tell prospective buyers that your price for the full transmission covers the cost of the MFactory LSD alone. If I was interested, that would be the selling point for me. Even if the transmission wouldn't fit my car, the LSD is swappable. Plus, you're including the JCW flywheel and clutch. (How many miles on it?)

I don't know the mileage of the clutch or flywheel. I have a stack of receipts but nothing in there about it. If I had to guess, it was when engine was rebuilt in 2015, approx 40k ago.

For those interested, I have found the only difference between them is the flywheel. But the flywheels bolt up to both motors. Starter, clutch, axles, shift linkage all the same.
I think this is an important topic, regardless of my part out, so if anyone can add to this information it will help everyone.

If I sell a used auto part, I stick to a simple statement about what vehicle it came from - year, etc. Determining the fitment is the responsibility of the buyer.

Doing otherwise can make things very difficult for yourself.

I understand that, and I have been very clear about what vehicle it came from. I simply have a number of people asking about other years and I am trying to help them. The Honda community is much more open to swapping parts among cars, figuring out what works. There is not this stigma associated with it.
