R56 Short Block N14/N18 identical?
Short Block N14/N18 identical?
Hi!
We recently bought a 2011 MCS/N18 with a broken piston. We still need to take the engine apart, but we expect a broken piston and maybe also a broken block due to piston damage. Not sure yet, but we will see.
I still have a N14 block in my garage, question is now: Are the short blocks identical so that the N14 block can replace the broken N18 block? Of course all removable parts will be taken from the N18 engine. It's only about the upper and lower half of the block itself.
Thanks for any help!
Greetings
Sven

Head gaskets are the same.
Oil pumps are not, which does not mean one cannot fit an N18 pump to an N14 block. You need to verify the N18 pump can be mounted to the N14 block.
Verify all fluid ports to the head are the same between the two blocks.
There may be other issues I have not thought of...
