Can someone explain to me how the N14 crankcase is vented? I see the PCV system but it only appear to have tube from the intake manifold and the air intake hose. Is it vented to the head through the area where the timing chain is, or what?
It's circulated through the valve cover. The PCV is integrated in the valve cover, and best of all, it's not serviceable, so you have to replace your valve cover to fix a $.10 diaphram.
What I meant is, I see no connection between the valve cover and the crank case. Most cars have a tube that links them.
However I think as the timing chain is within the engine block, not outside like most cam-belts, the vent is probably just through that open passage down to the crank. That's my guess anyway.
That's correct, the valve cover area is open to the crankcase through the timing chain tunnel and the oil drain passages.
Looks like you are due for new timing chain guides and probably the chain as well.
