R56 Clicking noise when turning engine by hand
Clicking noise when turning engine by hand
I’m in the process of rebuilding this motor. The head was resurfaced and rebuilt with new guide seals.
everything feels pretty smooth, but there is clicking or pop about every 180 degree turn that comes from the valves.
sounds like a valve snapping closed or maybe something in the Vanos sprocket?
anyone know of this is normal?

Yep. that was my suspicion as well. I went ahead and filled the VANOS sprocket with some Lucas oil and the noise considerably dropped.

You can pre-lube the engine, all you need is a Motive pressure filler and an oil pressure test kit. Use the adapters in the kit to connect to the motive filler to the engine. Connect the filler to your oil filter manifold, pressurize the filler, and let the oil flow.
