Clearing Adaptations on 🎱

So...stuck at home for the time being, and SUPER BORED!!! 🎱 ball, which is what my nieces call my 2010 MCS, HAD 150,000ish miles on it when I did the timing chain replacement, but it occurs to me that I should probably clear the adaptations...problem is, I have no idea how!!!

i have the Bavarian Technic scanner, enthusiasts version, so I should be able to clear the adaptations, if someone can give me a little instruction that is!!

Thanks!!

1. have the ignition ON but don't start the engine.
2. In scanner go to Reset Adaptations and follow instructions which will direct you to...
3. Pull key out for 15 secs.
4. Put the key back in and turn ignition ON.
5. Now do a check for faults and Clear ALL faults.
6. Pull key out and switch the Scanner off.

Hope this helps.

key in, ignition on, car off (tac, lights dash etc lit up)
fire up scan tool, go in and clear any dme’s (codes)
go back and reset adaptations.
on a Schwaben tool, prompts are cryptic, and dont tell you what to do other than car must be in park for auto trans. And some things about a terminal change and terminal 15
i had the e-brake on and in gear though.
As it resets you hear the clicks and wizzes coming from the engine bay as things reset.
30 second count down which goes so fast its about 10 seconds, but i waited the full 30 seconds.
screen comes up and tells you something about terminal 15 and wait 15 seconds.
i waited 20-ish
pull the key out so nothing is on.
hit ok, and done.
i waited another 20 seconds or so
Put the key in and ignition on.
i waited about 20 seconds.
Go into schwaben, clear any codes/cel’s
fired car up
let it run for 5 minutes

depending on your scan tool some of the code related verbiage may be weird to you, this might help.
the Foxwell/Schwaben tool uses the words Terminal 15 but nothing anywhere tells you what that is.
your took may be very simple and straight forward, not sure.

Terminal R = key pushed all the way in and locked
Terminal 15 = key pushed in + tap the start/stop button so that all accessory functions turn on but car doesnt start.

"terminal" references are:

helpful tip
if you do this and run the car after wards, then shut it off and the radiator fan stays running and rather loudly too, you have done it wrong.
the "ignition on" statement is very frustratingly weird for a car with a key fob you push in and a push button start.

be mindful off the steps and be careful if you are tuned it can erase parts of or the whole tune.
there are two resets in some adaptation resets.
1. Values and version
2 values
3 taught variants — this may be the thing that deletes tunes since "Taught" would imply programmed variants like a tune. - a tune taught the engine to run a certain way
4 cancel
I cam not 100% but I am pretty sure Learned is what the car has learned from your driving.
adaptations/values/versions is different and what I would focus on.

Okay, I followed Exdos instructions because I have the BaviTech Enthusiast version scanner, but after searching the drop down menus, I cannot find anything that says re-set adaptations!!! Am I just missing it, or does this scanner not have the option to re-set the adaptations?

HELP!!!

these steps are regarding the foxwell scanner
you would have to call bavitech or look around forums to know if it can do it.

also looking at a few other threads from you posting similar comments have you even tried reaching out to Bavarian Tech?
their own website doesnt even show the 2010 mini as a supported model. It stops at 2008. I say that as i saw a post mention you have a 2010.

Can’t one clear adaptives by simply disconnecting the negative battery cable or pulling the ECM/PCM fuse(s)? I have done this on other cars.

Rick - I would strongly suggest not disconnecting the battery unless you remove the FRM3 module first, I tried that too and it fried my footwell module which I then had to get re-programmed. Anyway, my battery was disconnected for almost a month and it didn’t clear the adaptations.

My experience is in old muscle cars that don’t have all the fancy computer controlled everything on them so I’ve made plenty of mistakes!!

i have tried contacting Bavarian Technic, back in mid-April, I haven’t heard back from them, not sure if they’re open or shutdown at the moment though.
