R56 Do I have adaptive headlights?
Do I have adaptive headlights?
2012 MCS. My manual shows a position on my turn signal stem which I don’t have -rotate to below the “off” position..yet when I replaced the Xenon bulb I see the mechanism for this system (the ball is actually broken on the right side headlamp, allows it to swing right to left freely)
could the factory have installed these headlamps without the controls, or might there have been an upgrade where the stem didn’t have this switch position?

The notch below the “Off” position is for “Automatic” headlights - for the headlights to switch on automatically in the dark. The HID headlights have auto-leveling, which is probably the mechanism you saw inside the headlights.
There is an adjustment screw for horizontal
alignment (and another one for vertical
adjustment) on the outside of the headlight.
The lever for this inside the headlight is likely
broken, allowing it to flop back and forth.
I had this problem.
