My wife's R56 (non-S) bought the car used and it did not come with a radio code. My question is, do the R56's require a code when the battery is disconnected or not? I have searched several different forums and I find inconsistent answers. If it needs a code, would I have to take it directly to a mini dealership for them to pull it out to get the serial number and give me the code or is it something that a local shop can do?

My new 2010 R56 did not come with a radio code. I've disconnected the battery several times with no problems.

 

What kind of radio do you have? I have just the radio and CD player with aux port, nothing special. Not sure if it makes a difference or not.

 

I have the standard AM/FM CD player that came standard on the car.

 

owned MINIs since 2002

none has come with a radio 'code'

pulled bat' many times ... no issues.

{since head units are now usually buried ... and pulling out fast by a thief is impossible ... code became moot.}

 

Ok great, just tested it out tonight. Disconnected the battery and then reconnected it. No issues with the radio.
