Inner pot joint contacting lower arm

Hi All,

Due to a lost inner CV boot band, I pulled the halfshaft out today, leaving the inner pot joint attached to the gearbox. The joint is in contact with the lower control arm. I thought it may be because the suspension was at full droop, so I reconnected the arm to the knuckle and jacked it up. It's still in contact. (Now I at least know what happened to the band!)

I have recentlyish checked the motor mounts by watching the engine while revving it. They looked okay, but I'm thinking it's got to be a bad motor mount allowing the engine to droop. I guess it's possible the arm is somehow bent, but that doesn't seem likely. Has anyone seen this? Any ideas on what to check to figure out what the problem really is?

The halfshaft was replaced with an OEM unit from Minimania. According to the part number on the box and the fact that everything went together without issue seems to indicate that I do have the correct shaft.

The car is a 2007 S hatchback (R56).

Thanks in advance for any ideas you can throw my way. If I can upload a pic, I'll do so.

Dean

Well. I think I found the problem - or the source of however many problems this may have caused.

Can anyone tell me if this is part of the engine mount bracket? I'd assume so, but haven't taken everything apart yet.

It's the mount for the transmission from what realoem shows. It's number 2 in the picture. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=22_0128
Here's the part that broke.

Browse thru this illustrated parts list --- https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select --- maybe the pic will be clear enough to show what the part should look like.

Edit: Looks like NeonLed beat me to it ---

THANK YOU! That's a fantastic site. I've never seen it before. And $25 for a used item makes me feel a lot better.

It was the gearbox mount bracket. Unfortunately, when the bracket went, it $#%#$$#^%#$^ sheared off the two side flange bolts. The one not hiding behind an inch thick bit of wiring loom actually backed out with a pair of pliers. The other one is stuck, though. I managed to shoehorn the Dremel in and cut a slot. It didn't move with a screwdriver, so I've soaked it in PB and will let it sit a few days. Then, I'll break out the impact wrench and see what happens. I guess an easy out would be the next try. Grrrr...

Wish me luck.
