R56 Wheel noise and tire size dilemma
Wheel noise and tire size dilemma
Month ago had new tires put on the front - 195 60 15s, same size as the back but a different brand.
Started getting a progressive whine from the front and a slight vibration I could feel in the gas pedal.
Rotated the tires - new ones to the back - no change.
Inspected shaft boots, suspension - nothing obvious.
Took to the Mini shop - they say nothing obvious but tires too big.
No noise before tire change - only difference is brand of tires, put the same size on as came off.
Anyone run into this problem? If I go with the tire solution I have to toss two new tires and put the smaller size tires all around or just get 2 more Cooper 195 60 15s to match the back.
If that doesn't do it I will have flushed 350.00 - 600.00 and still have a problem.
All input appreciated - thanks.

Had 2 new Cooper 195 60 15 CS5 Ultra Tourings installed to match the new ones on the rear. Problem solved.
Like these tires - car handles great, no more noise - a matched set of the same age seems optimal for this Mini.
Motor Trend gave the tires a pretty good writeup - 279.00 for 2, 560.00 for the set of 4 - could have been worse. Beats changing wheel bearings.

side bar
new tires need a break in or run in period
during this time performance is 'different' and the noise they generate can differ from 'normal' as well
