I have daily it since late Nov, I drove 5 hours today and everything works perfectly. ABS/DSC is still not resolved, but since I don't really need it, it's not in my priority list. Recently really busy in the work and holiday stuff, also worked on my wife F56 a bit. The writeup for the swap is halfway done, need extra time to finish it.

That is good news....i guess the big question will be how the guy was abke to set the ECU to think it's manual and was it the only ecu he modified!

Keep up the good work brother

I have no clue how he did it, and he wasn't willing to share. He has his BMW tunning business, completely understand to keep something in secret. My next task is to install JCW tuning kit on my wife's F56 & fix my 350Z that hit the wall at Watkins Glen

I will need to get rid of the R56 sometime early next year, the front end is completely gone so can't be winched to the trailer, do you know if junkyard or some company will tow it for free as a trade for metals?

Any scrap yard should send someone. Give them a call in advance amd tell them the car is stripped or something. Also I think as long as you have the title there shouldn't be an issue. They can hook from door opening or struts openings.

Dis you take everything to the bare metal?

Hey GT350, can you confirm you did what this guy did? It seems like all you had to do it code the CAS and FRM and you'd be set?! I'll try it on my car soon to see if it was really that easy. If so, this will complete your write up.

The link is not working. My 1st step was to change the transmission setting from AT to MT in CAS, FRM, KOMBI by NCS expert after remove 205 from VO. most AT settings changed to MT except DCS light and check engine light (missing automatic transmission). I believe the correct way is to use ISTA-P to reprogram all modules after VO update, it should automatically update the CAS, FRM, KOMBI setting and also the ZB#.

I believe DSC light is related to DME (missing AT), so you don't need to work on fixing the DSC, because after swapping donor's manual DME, DSC light disappeared w/o any coding, however I messed it up after attempting to swap and code too many stuff, and all BRAKE, DSC, ABS lights are on.
I spent 2 months try to correct the DME and never succeed, and the bimmer tuner eventually did the trick in 1 min....

The video was actually something you watched before you got your programming cable. The guy was that " 50s kid"

you remind me of " you got one minute to win it" lol

I tried ISTAP before, no dice :(

Another guy got in touch with the bimmer guy to fix the same issue on his swap. He said it took him 1.5 hr to fix it. Of course he couldn't follow what the guy was doing!!!!

There are definitely pre-works that I have done for bimmer guy to clear the DME error in one min.

Unfortunately in INPA, I too could not get to the "Varianten" area to clear variants.

You have to go into Tool32, open up your proper prg file, mine was med17_2n.prg for my ~08 R56. From there, look in the jobs list for "varianten_loschen" (variants clear) and double click it. You can also find double click "adaptionen_loschen" to clear adaptations though I could still do this in INPA.

Once this is cleared, DSC and the DME should no longer have communication codes come back after clearing them due to EGS not being there.

Wow finally may resolve this mysrery. Thanks tonerrrr!

MiniToBe - can you try it and let us know if it works. I feel my sketch for the swap write up missing this most important step. if this does the trick, I will continue to finish up the writing.

the concept of resetting adaptation is there, but it seems that the variant is needed to be reset.
I'm checking my system if I have tool32 to try it. I will report soon.

that's good to hear and I feel the same thing...I'm stuck with minis for a long time lol...I am now working on an N12 to N18 swap. I picked up a nicely optioned 07 R56 base for less than 1k. here is a link https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-with-n18.html in case you want to upgrade your engine

great to hear that you are still working on mini projects! I feel more comfortable to do mechanic stuffs. Need to be smart enough to work on coding~. I have my Z on the lift in winter to prepare for the new season.

I've been looking at a manual swap for my r56. You seem like the only person whose willing to. Would you say it was worth it? Or what you would've done differently

After lots of reading, can anyone confirm a few details for me. This was a R55 MT to R56 AT swap correct? I’m about to take on a 56 to 56 swap. One is an ‘07 the other is an ‘09. I have been told, if you pull all the MT parts, swap it in with the ECU out of the MT it should work. If needed can I pull the CAS out of the MT and move it over with everything else? Thanks folks!

the swap was AT to MT as the title of the thread suggested.

You can keep your ecu and CAS of the original car. Only thing that took us time to figure was the the fact you needed to reset the ecu adaptations amd variants. Ecus are VIN locked so you cannot just swap it.

So I have a Mac, is it pretty straightforward to reset it?

Not an operating system. You need a program called toolset32. It's special software for bmw/mini.
