R56 Warning Light Question

Warning Light Question
Hi all,
Considering a potential purchase of a Mini a few states over and the photos show the triangle/exclamation point warning illuminated and engine running.
Seller claims it’s from the ignition being on and the driver’s door being open. I don’t have a Mini currently so can’t check (and haven’t found the answer here or elsewhere online). Can someone verify if this is plausible?
Thanks!

Do you have a picture of the indicator? If its in the big display, I believe it means "Service Due." If it is a smaller triangle, it could mean the gas is low, or TPMS isn't working, or something else is going on. I wouldn't think the warning triangle is a deal breaker, but I would certainly want to know why its there before purchase.
What year is it? You can get an electronic copy of the owners manual here:

Well, I might still be able to help some. The first pic is my 2011 R56S manual, running, with the driver's door open. The second is my wife's 2013 R57 auto, running, with the driver's door open. That exclamation point indicates something needs service. Could be anything, maybe even something that was serviced but the indicator wasn't reset.

owner's manual: "Everything under control"
.... that little diamond is sort of a catch all warning that 'something is a miss' and requires further checking. If the situation clears itself, like an open door or unlatched seatbelt, the warning will go out / clear itself. If it stays on it means the alert is saved and can be checked via the on board computer .... in this case most often just a service alert as an 'OBD code' will normally cause a check engine light.

you can find example owner's manuals here https://new.minimania.com/Downloads.cfm
don't worry about exact year model .... if you have correct GEN and basic model the manuals don't typically change from year to year (until there is a "facelift") ... example the R59 changed very little during its production. MOST questions can be answered for manual for any year . . .
