timing chain tensioner replace

How difficult is it to replace the tensioner? N18 S do I need the cam lock tool or could I just remove and replace? I would think the cams would or could spin without the tensioner.

it can be done without the locking tool...just move slow on the tensioner. (That's how I did it and continue to do it)
