R56 JB+ or AFE Scorcher GT
JB+ or AFE Scorcher GT
Brand new to the thread and about to purchase a 2012 S. Can't really find much about the AFE Scorcher GT (searching this board or google in general) and am wondering how it compares to the JB+ for a starter tune?
Hm I've never heard of it either before this thread.

Based on the description the functionality of the scorcher looks identical to the JB+, faking a signal to alter the ECU's boost response for a given input. So I'd just go with the cheaper option. JB+ is widely used and well respected, and you can find it for $200-215 on these forums in the Marketplace.

For the price of the GT you can get an ECU FLASH. If you don't do an ECU tune, then go with a JB+ Good luck Mario mQubed Motorsport, Manic Tuning Dealer

Thanks for the response, I found it on bavauto but couldn't find any actual reviews anywhere. I will probably just go with the JB+ given it seems to be very popular. Initially, I thought the option of having four settings would be nice on the Scorcher but not really wanting to gamble given it's almost twice the cost of the JB+.
My Stage 1 tune was $500. ManicMini, done at a shop in Tempe AZ. The guy who did it said he could have put in a switch with different settings (and off too) but he found nobody hardly ever changed anything and it cost a couple hundred extra. I like my tune a lot. Even adds some exhaust burbles I didn't have before.
I have to agree that a tune would be much better money spent. We have the basic tune that starts at $400 and will net you more power and response than any piggyback kind of tune as the ECU is just too smart to work well with them. Just ask anyone that has had a JB, then got a tune the difference is night and day.
