straight pipe

looking to make a straight pipe for my clubman and i was wondering if there is any easy way to get the same flange so i can bolt it right up to my downpipe. i don't want to cut my current exhaust beacuse it is the jcw and so i can swap it out if i take the straight pipe

I'm sure it's possible but more than likely the quickest and easiest way would be to buy a separate exhaust system and have a shop cut out everything and replace it with piping.

Why do you want a straight pipe anyway? Seems like a great way to make it so you can never have a conversation in your car again and get tons of tickets. Trust me, I have the catless downpipe and an Invidia system that came with a resonator and straight through muffler. Droned really bad on the highway and I got a ticket for a loud exhaust. Had to add a resonator to it to cut down the drone and keep myself sane.

Mainly because i like loud. But when i had my r56 I wanted to straight pipe but sold it before i had time. I already have a catless downpipe and with the JCW exhaust i love the sound now. But I think I'm going to try and find an exhaust that hit from the rear so that flange is still good and i will just cut it off and build my own.

I have never herd herd a straight pipe mini. It could last 1 day or a month i have no idea I just want to do it.

I tuned a straight pipe Mini with flamethrower in sport mode on over run. Sounded like an AK47 on full auto. I'm pretty sure every LEO in a five mile radius started lookin for us lol. I say go for it but you probably will be installing at least a resonator later. Another option is to install an electrically controlled exhaust cutout before the rear muffler. Hit the switch and instant muffler bypass.

IIRC most state laws refer to a SAE or ASTM standard with regards to exhaust noise. Can't remember the number. The usual limit is 105db at 36 inches from the exhaust with vehicle RPM at half of maximum.

Thats awesome! I live in rural Ohio where trucks dominate the loudness of an straight pipe. I'm not to worried about the law of anything i will just swap it out and reinstall the JCW exhaust.

I'm in NY and got the ticket in NY it's literally up to the discretion of the ticketing officer. If they think your exhaust is too loud, it's too loud. There's no standard.

That sucks. NY has about the most restrictive laws in the nation and city laws can get even more subjective. NY state code says it illegal to operate a vehicle under any throttle setting where the sound level exceeds 76db if the posted speed limit is 35 or under, and 82db where the speed limit is over 35. This is measured at a distance of 50 feet from the center of the lane the motor vehicle is traveling in. This one is tough to fight cause you'd have to prove throttle setting or prove it's quieter than the limit at WOT. Heck there's factory exhausts that won't pass that test.

NYC code is a bit more subjective which means your gonna have fun fighting it. Basically if the exhaust is plainly audible at a distance of 150 feet or more in zones where speed is 35 mph or less it's illegal. "Plainly" audible is where they get you. Plainly audible to me may not be plainly audible to someone else.

Move to sunny FL bombardier. We need more fast Mini's down here lol.

NYC Cops are really loose about loud exhaust tickets, I don't know a single person that has gotten one yet, and trust me, some of these cars wake the dead lol.

All I've read is that it's just straight up illegal to drive with a modded exhaust, but the noise limit is up to the discretion of the officer. No way the cop had a decibel reader, it was just an "Oh yeah, your exhaust is too loud too." ticket. I got mine upstate but I'm from Long Island. Probably thought I was some rich kid from the Hamptons lol. I fought it already and got that and the other charges bumped down so it's not a huge deal, just a cautionary tale to OP.

Anyway do what you like. Again I would say just buy a stock Clubman S exhaust and cut everything out of it. Or like you said find a good flange and build from there.

A friend of mine had an R53 with a straight pipe and it would pop & burble and shoot flames for about 10 seconds after he let off the gas. It was fun and hilarious but it got old quick especially after getting pulled over a few times (we're in western NY). He added a muffler to it and it's much easier to live with now, even though it's still super loud.

My plan for my R56, for now, is to cut out the second cat and resonator, but leave the OEM muffler, and get a catless downpipe. Should be plenty loud until I get an aftermarket exhaust.

Dang sounds like a r53 from hell! But on my Clubman would just do one pipe or Y the pipe and run dual so it looks stock? I would like the idea of dual better but if a single pipe would be better I could try it out.
