R56 Generic catch can? (2010 Cooper S)
Generic catch can? (2010 Cooper S)
Hi all.
I recently got a 2010 Cooper S with the auto transmission. It only has 53K miles on it and runs well.
Has anyone installed a "generic" catch can on one? I see them at the Mini specialty sites for about $200. Many of the "generic" ones are about $100.
Is the extra cost for the custom fittings?
Thanks.

It depends on how far you want to go to DIY, which includes sourcing the correct fittings, hoses, clamps, etc.
Since I have little time on the weekends to spare, I just went with BSH's oil catch can along with their rear pcv blockoff adapter. It was an excellent fit and finish. No headaches and fits driving to Home Depot or the parts store to not find the fitting you need, etc.
Be sure you get your engine walnut blasted to remove carbon buildup. The catch can helps with this, but does not eliminate the underlying problem.
