R56 Coil Pack Service

Popped a check engine and had it scanned at a local (recommended shop) and got back multipule engine misfires. They recommended replacing all four coil packs and replacing the spark plugs (at 57k now, and i believe the plugs need to be replaced at 60k anyway) I got quoted at $625 for the work, does that sound about right? Also had another question as to if there is anything else I should worry about after having these engine misfires? Should I be worried about the 02 sensors as well? I drove very little on it once the code popped up.

You don't mention model year or if you have a Justa or an S model, so I will go generic. Sounds like reasonable price for a shop to do that job. I would do it myself and save the labor costs. As far as anything else to worry about, I would say no. Once the ECU senses a misfire, it will cut fuel to that cylinder so as not to swamp the catalytic converters or O2 sensors with fuel. Let us all know how your situation works out.

buy the coilpacks at your local o'reilly's for around $200. Google a how to, very basic and easy to do yourself with minimal tools.

yep, which r56 and year do you have would be helpful. (for an R56 S) $625 if they were replacing with mini parts wouldnt be bad, venders here sell 4 coils for $250-300, set of plugs for $50-60, 2 hours labor should be plenty

there is a code for multiple cyl misfires (P0300) and there are codes for each individual cyl misfire P0301,P0302, P0303, P0304.

if youre getting a constant misfire of a single cylinder then i would look into coil, at 57k its entirely possible

plugs if they havent been changed i would say get it done anyway.

if youre getting the multiple cyl misfire code i would be suspicious of the high pressure fuel pump

Coil Packs

Thanks guys I have a 2011 Mini Cooper S. They ended up replacing all four of the coil packs and did plugs as well. I was getting multipule engine misfires, so I sure hope its not a high pressure fuel pump, any idea what the costs of replacing that might be?

When and if the HPFP fails, you will also get codes for low fuel pressure along with your random or cylinder-specific misfire codes. I had my HPFP replaced under factory warranty, and later on all 4 coil packs replaced under my Hendrick aftermarket warranty.
Glad that you seem to have it sorted out for now.
