Boost leak testing, code p2885

Hello all, I was wondering if any one knows how to do the boost leak test for our cars for pretty cheap. I can get my hands on a fogger (being as Halloween is around the corner). Just don't really know where to force the smoke in at. I was driving around last night and my car threw the p2885 code (charge pressure control min). I figured this was the best place to start when tackling the problem...

Just remoce the filter or just past the air filter somwhere would showi your doing a boost leak test. I just went through a 4 month streak of code p2885 and mine ended up being the exhaust housing on my turbo.

For P2885 - Boost Pressure Control Deviation, plausibility

What year R56 do you have? A few suggestions to check:

When was the last time you performed a carbon clean up? You'll want to keep up on this every 50k to ensure you're getting every bit of HP out of your engine as you can. I've seen this code thrown with some individuals who ended up needing to do a carbon clean up. Info on that here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...n_Cleaning.htm

I'd recommend checking every boost pipe and vacuum pipe that you can to rule out a possible vacuum leak. If you can make a home tester, that will help track it down as you stated above. Also, I'd test the wastegate and wastegate vacuum actuator. Check your turbo seals as well. You can follow the instructions in this tech article here: Mini R56 Testing the Engine Turbocharger Wastegate | Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article. I've seen this code associated more than a few times with some sort of issue relating to the turbo.

I have an 09, I have an accessport on my car and was changing tune to the stock style tune and the code showed when I went back to the tune I had, I cleared the code after a day and it's been about 3-4 days since I had the code and it hasn't came back... I think the computer just got confused

You should start off with finding someone with a quality scan tool. P2885 is almost always accompanied by other codes, as it is a limp mode code for the turbo cars. Every turbo car that we get in the shop that in limp mode also has a P2885 codes stored, you need to find out more of the story.

P2885 In MOST cases winds up being a worn out shaft on the waste gate inside the turbo housing. If you can grab the waste gate mechanism and wiggle it you need a new housing.

loosing vacuum to wastegate

Hi Guys

Newby to forum. Recently purchased 2010 JCW R57. Car threw 1/2 CEL, so I took it to local BMW Mini independant mechanic. Diagnosed "frozen wastegate", with a possible $2700 repair. Refused service and upon my disassembly of the front of the car, it became apparent that the Turbo cartridge had been replaced.

In checking wastegate I found the the installer had adjusted the wastegate so that it could not possibly open, thus throwing overboost code.

I adjusted the W/G , and upon starting it, the CEL went away. A few days later, 1/2 CEL, Code off dash CC-ID 029. I put a Tee in the vacuum line to W/G and attached vacuum gage, plenty of vacuum. After winding it up, the vacuum would drop thus opening W/G, but would not return vacuum until the engine was stopped and restarted.

I guess my question is, is this a normal occurrence by the ECU to act as a deterrent to causing other problems.

Any thoughts?
