New to NAM Picked Up This 2011 MCS

Hey everyone, after spending about a week perusing the forum I figured I'd properly introduce myself. I recently picked up this MCS to take over DD duty from my 92 Miata. She has 65,000 miles but is still running perfectly, engine, and transmission sound and feel brand new. I've put about 500 miles on her so far and have loved every second of it, such a fun car.

As I said before this is my daily so I'm not planning on too many mods (hah! Like that will happen!) but I'll definitely be doing something about the exhaust so I can actually hear the car while I'm driving. In addition I'll be installing an oil temp gauge and probably pick up an open intake to get a little more turbo/bov noise.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot on here going forward, thanks in advance for the ideas and info I'll be using 😁

Welcome! When I first joined the MINI ranks with my 08 Cooper S, I thought the exact same thing as you re: exhaust and intake. I'd definitely suggest the factory JCW muffler (fJCW), it gives you a much better exhaust note without being drony on the highway. I have a video comparing the two on youtube, if you search for mini cooper fjcw exhaust you should be able to find many others too.

For the intake all I did was buy the K&N panel filter and that actually was all I needed to hear the BOV. Changing the intake isn't going to be a huge performance increase so you might as well start with the panel filter for $50 and see how it sounds.

Some good suggestions in this thread. As far as horsepower is concerned, here is what our tech experts recommend:

Here is the ''typical' engine / hp upgrade path:

1. cold air intake
2. cat back exhaust
3. supercharger pulley (& colder plugs)
4. ecu upgrade
5. intercooler upgrade

and for those looking for more:

6. larger injectors
7. cylinder head (stage 1 or stage 2)
8. camshaft
