Do used TPMS have a value?

I'm looking at a set of used wheels on Craigslist, and they most likely have the wrong TPMS. Would the used sensors have any value, as spares for someone maybe?

Is there any way to test them?

Depends what car they are from. A used set for some cars is only $30-40. A used set for a MINI/BMW is still worth ~$100.

Yes, they can be tested while still mounted....not sure of the details though...some independent shops seem to have the right testers....

The used value should be based on age. The internal batteries can not be replaced. You can test them by putting them on the car. The MINI TPMS sensors changed sometime in 2009. You can find the exact month by searching the forum.

Yea, we have them here the 9/2009 is the split year. Yes, they have value as long as they work and the battery has not died.

Yes, I'm aware of most of that. I have an early build car so most of the wheels I see, even if they're R56 wheels, generally have the later sensors. That's why I wondered if the sensors have value when used.

I can't test them by putting them on the car since they don't work with my car. Around $100 for the set if they're not terribly old? How long do TPMS batteries generally last on these cars?

My 2008 original TPMS are starting to act-up when it is very cold. I am occasionally getting the blinking tire symbol when the car is started. After a mile or so of driving all is OK so I'm guessing the batteries are starting to fail. So that is 8 years of service which seems to be the average life of these sensors. Too bad that the batteries are not able to be replaced.

If you put a few more pounds of air in the tires the problem may go away. Your pressure goes down with temperature and goes up with heat generated by driving.

Yes they have value as long as the batteries work. Any shop with the right tool can scan and check that they are functional
