Does this hose need replacement?

Hey! My mechanic told me I needed to replace the vacuum pump as it has been leaking oil for a while. And he wanted $650 to do it. Forget that! So I bought the new pump, and when I took the old one off, I saw this:

I am completely new to cars and to Minis. What is that hose? Something tells me the hose shouldn't look like that. Does it need to be replaced?

Thank you!!

It's a plastic wire loom designed to contain and protect electrical wires. They are split like that by design. However, yours is quite contaminated with oil. If the wires look bad inside, you could clean everything up and replace the loom. If you aren't having any trouble with it as-is, I probably would just give it a cleaning and not worry about it.

Ah okay, thanks!

So, would I just unplug the battery, spray some degreaser on a piece of cloth, wipe the wires down, and that be it? Cause I'm not having any issues right now.

Unless you are prepared to give the engine bay a top to bottom detailing, I'd leave it alone. If you clean the loom and wiring harness it will just make the rest of the bay look all the worse.

As noted above, it's not a hose, it's a plastic wrap for wiring. It's not hurting a thing. All it can do is collect dirt because it's oily. You don't have to disconnect anything if you want to wipe it down.
