Came out to find car unlocked and windows down?

Hi All,

I opened the front door this morning and found my wife's Cooper with its windows down and the doors unlocked. The alarm hadn't gone off and nothing was taken from the glove box or trunk?

I'm assuming someone was about to steal it and got disturbed as i can't think of any other explanation? How did they manage to do that without setting off the alarm though?

Is there any other explanation as to how this happened?

Many thanks.

My first thought would be that there was a 'glitch' somewhere in the electrical system. On my '13 R56 the windows can't be operated unless the ignition is turned on.

A couple of things. First nobody tried to steal your car.
A) the remote fob was pressed up against something and it caused a double tap and hold of the unlock button
B) dog chewed remote. ( yes I've seen it happen)
C) drivers door handle/lock failing and simulating a comfort open situation
D) check for a water leak inside car. Feel the rugs if wet under the floor mats
E) wife had key in 400 lb purse and hit the buttons when put down.

Let us know what's find

This was the first thing I thought of when I reading thread title, as with my '12 MCS I just press and hold the unlock button once and not only do both doors unlock, but both windows go down fully and the moonroof opens to vent position

+1 Pressed and held the remote while in pocket by mistake.

Battery is bad, sometimes this will happen.

+2. I've had similar things happen to me. It's easy for the button to get pressed when it's in your pocket.

When I first had my R52 in 2004 , yet got it early , Bumped the key in my pocket once and came out to the convertible top in sunroof position.
