Evap codes r56 justa help

Hey fellas. Im ussually in the r53 section. But the GF has a r56 justa and has thrown 2 codes. P0442 and the other code was lean condition found upon start up. P2097. Im not sure if the p2097 has come back or not. But p0442 has the gas cap warning periodically during trips. We have tried putting the gas cap on multiple ways. Theres no visual damage to that. After doing some research there is the dmtl pump and the charcol canister. Would eith of these be affected with this code?

One piece of info is that when ever we put gas in the mini it wont start under normal idle throttle. We have to full throttle for it to start. This is only after putting gas in the car.

Any ideas on where i should start looking?
Thanks

Do a search for gas cap in 'stock problems'. There is previous discussion there.

New gas cap first, as it is cheap and can solve the issue.

P0442 - Solutions here. If the seal is bad on the cap, it can trigger this. It's the easiest/cheapest place to start. Gas cap here if needed.
P2097 - Few possibilities - Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Rich (Bank 1) or Pre-catalytic oxygen sensor, mixture fine-tuning: Exhaust gas behind catalytic converter too rich. Possible solutions Here.

Keep in mind that the new gas cap doesn't always immediately fix the issue. The evaporate system check gets triggered after a certain set of parameters gets met. In my case it went away after a few drives and over 100 miles.

well for the first time yesterday, gas was put into the car much more easily. and started normally. which could be a number of things,

1.) colder so the tubing for the evap system is better sealed
2.) gas cap had a better seal
3.) gas cap was put on a different way

There are 3 renditions of P2097, and you will only know which of the three you are currently dealing with is to find someone with a dealer level tech tool.

1. Post catalyst fuel trim system too rich

2. Pre catalyst oxygen sensor, mixture fine tuning: exhaust gas behind cat too rich.

3. Pre catalyst oxygen sensor, system check: Signal stuck lean.
