Best Downpipe

What is the best downpipe for the R56? I want a high flow CAT, but need a cat, it has to pass emissions inspection (visual). Goals are for a stage 2 tune so I want something that will perform well but at this time, it is my DD so I need to obey the law. Also, I am keeping the remainder of the exhaust stock for now.

What is the best "Catted" downpipe? Why do you feel this way? Expected power gains pre-tune?

Any change in exhaust notes?

Can't tell you which is, better or why, but passing emissions is an issue with the high flow cats. They will pass a visual, but most will throw a code. In Penn. any code pending will fall inspection. Not sure what your state does. My emissions inspector talked about spacers and such may or may not work on the O2 sensor. I was thinking of removing and placing a straight pipe, but for the little gain, not sure any of it is worth it in the end, pulling and changing once a year at inspection time. I do have a stage 2 DNA tune.

We found the best Catted Downpipe for the turbo MINI to be the Akrapovic. It not only looks like a piece of art, but it always fits perfect and isn't too loud. I've got one for my car and love it.

Check out Keiser Garage located in Seven Valleys and ask for Ben or Sam (owner). I just had my inspection (both) 3 weeks ago and passed with no issues with a hi-flow cat.

I am just outside Philadelphia so I am in the same boat. I understand that a tune will clear codes, BUT that changes nothing of the actual measurements done during an inspection. I didn't even think about that... well *****... So my options are what, replace the downpipe with stock when my inspection date is near so that I pass? doesn't seem absurd just hugely inconvenient.

Or just save your money and get a stage 1 tune for now. Most stage 1 tunes can be run totally stock, and you'll get more HP gains for your dollar than swapping the downpipe. No worry about inspection either.

Alright, all this aside what downpipe will give me the most power gains? Lets assume I get a local speed shop to work with me or I am willing to change out the aftermarket downpipe with the stock downpipe come inspection time.

Acrapovic is a well-made piece and I run their complete exhaust on my KTM Superduke 1290 also...

MarioKarts DownPipe FTW. I live in Cali and decided to go catless on my JCW. Amazing difference, sound is fantastic and so is the power even without the tune, saving my $$$ for Stage 2
