Mini Cooper R55 R56 R57 A0B6 Shift Interlock Resolved. Must watch for AT owners.
If you have the yellow gear light with exclamation point AND trouble/diagnostic code A0B6, you’ll want to read this and watch my video!
This post applies to: R55, R56, R57, R60 (Cooper, Cooper S) with F21 ASIN 6speed automatic
Transmission
I read a lot of posts to gain information, but I don’t post much because I normally find what I’m looking for (thanks to all the posters). I couldn’t find what I was looking for so I decided to make a video and post my fix here. If you want to skip the narrative and just watch the video, here you go:
VIDEO:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uZ5...ature=youtu.be
NARRATIVE:
I was having the following trouble code with my 2008 Mini Cooper S Clubman:
A0B6 – Selector lever interlock signal, above threshold
Also, the yellow gear and exclamation point would show on the display. Also, it sometimes the key would not release from the ignition. There are posts on this topic, but none identical to the situation I’m talking about.
I noticed I could move the selector out of park without the key in the ignition or my foot on the brake (i.e. the shift lock solenoid/mechanism was not working). The video explains my fix. Here is what Mini would do which would cast $500+ for the part (new) or $150 (used/salvage yard) PLUS labor:

A/T - Gear Indicator Warning Lamp ON/Code A0B6
SI M24 01 08
Automatic Transmission
January 2011
Technical Service
This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI M24 01 08 dated March 2010.
[NEW] designates changes to this revision
SUBJECT
[NEW] R55, R56, R57, R60 with F21 Transmission - Warning Lamp Illuminated with FC A0B6
MODEL
R55, R56, R57, R60 (Cooper, Cooper S) with F21 ASIN 6-speed automatic transmission
SITUATION
Intermittently, the transmission warning lamp ("gear indicator") is displayed (in some instances, when the ignition is turned off). Also, the selector lever could not be moved out of the P position. Fault code A0B6
(Selector lever interlock signal, above threshold) may be stored in the CAS module.
[NEW] CAUSE
Incorrect adjustment of the gearshift cable at the transmission selector level or sluggish movement of the shift lock solenoid lever due to outside influence (fluid spillage in the shifter area)
CORRECTION
[NEW] Fluid damage:
Inspect the shifter for any signs of liquid spillage. Failure or malfunction of the shifter (e.g., impaired movement of the lock solenoid lever) due to external influences (e.g., coffee, soda spillage) does not constitute a defect in workmanship or material, and the resulting
shifter replacement cannot be covered under the MINI New Passenger Car Limited Warranty.
Gearshift cable adjustment required:
Adjust the gearshift selector cable according to Repair Instruction REP24 10 018. After the adjustment is performed, the M8 tightening nut of thetransmission selector lever should be torqued to 12 Nm. Do not replace any components. Clear the fault memory and test drive the vehicle.
Note:
On vehicles produced from 03/01/2008 to 03/31/2008, if fault code A0B6 is stored in the CAS module, the Steptronic gearshift assembly (P/N 25 16 7
577 589) should be replaced. For the replacement procedure, refer to REP25 16 056.

Your code is not related to A0B6 as I describe in this thread. P0974 along with being stuck in 1st gear AND the fact you just replaced the trans makes me think your electrical connection from the ECM/DME to the transmission is either not connected or not connected properly.
So i recently had my power transfer component replaced. It completely broke and cost 1800 to fix. (Bummer). I decided to get the Schwaben scan tool and did my initial scan. Im getting this A0B6/not present code and im wondering if it has something to do with the part i just fixed. Or is it a entirely new issue i have to deal with.... i hope not. Thoughts?
