R56 Improvements ??
Improvements ??
My son has a 1st Gen 05 Mini S which was plagued with issues that I repaired myself such as strut towers, harmonic balancer, bad starter, alternator and power steering leak (reservoir).....I am looking at getting my wife an 07 Mini Cooper base model NOT the S. Have any of the issue described been an issue with the second Gen or are there a new set of issues to look for ??
I got very proficient with my son's 05 Mini S, I was hoping this one being a base model and a second Gen might have fewer issues. I am going to look at it tomorrow and was just looking for some tips on things to look out for with the base model.
The R56 "Justa" cars have thermostat housing issues and oil pump solenoid issues, much like the S cars do. Fortunately they don't have most of the other R56S issues.
Suspensions don't seem to have common trouble points, just the normal wear items. (Shocks, bushings, etc.). The stock brake pads make a ton of dust, and the rotors are thin enough that they often have to be replaced when the pads are.
Electrical stuff can be real hit-or-miss. I have a couple of weird random glitches that occur very very infrequently--maybe once a year or so. But I'm starting to expect that from the very complex electrical systems on modern cars.
There have been one or two chain tensioner failures reported for the non-S motors, but they seem to be far less common than with the S motors.
I've been happy with mine!
