R56 Help! Hit a raccoon, coolant leak
Hello,
Yep.
That is the auxiliary water pump. It sets in front of the transmission and cools the turbo. Don't drive with it leaking or damaged . Get a new one and replace it asap. Dont drive with it off. You will also need to top of the coolant and bleed the system. Use the MINI blue coolant and mix with distilled water 50/50.
Also check the connection lines to make sure they were not damaged or pulled off.

If you hit anything, and damaged the aux water pump, I would say that there is more damage than JUST the aux water pump. Something got pushed back far enough to damage that pump. My wife bottomed my 2011 MCS in a dip on our dirt road, and at first, it only looked like superficial damage to the bumper cover and snap-in black plastic trim pieces. Turns out, the plastic radiator support was broken. The whole front end was "loose", and the radiator was hanging with no support on one side. In driving, the air pushed the front end in far enough to force the right inner fender into the tire, chewing up the inner fender. You really need to look for more damage. Not easy to see with the bumper cover on.
Ditto to the above. I broke the radiator support and the aux water pump. The water pump is pretty well protected, I doubt that something only hurt the pump without other damage.
Pull the bottom of the bumper off, and see if you can move the bottom of the radiator fore and aft on the car. If you can, it is likely that the radiator support is broken.
You don't just want to replace the aux water pump and just keep driving.
