r56 Tailight Issue

We had been having the light icon go off and on for the last several months intermittently. Couldn't figure out why. One evening I was following my wife home (she was driving the Mini) and I noticed that the bottom red ring of the tailight wasn't lit. Easy fix - buy new bulb and replace. Look at NAM forum realize that I should remove taillight assy. After losing some skin trying to get it out, replace bulb and nothing. Start playing around and notice if I rotate the bulb assy a little, it will come on. Try cleaning all the connections, still only works if I rotate bulb. I did notice that there was some damage on the hole that the bulb assy goes into, maybe got too hot. Anyway, finally rotated bulb assy to place where it would stay lit and tape it with electrical tape. Hope this will hold it in this position.

The Mini is a fun car to drive but the r56 must have been manufactured to the standards they used for the original Mini. The windshield rubber is cracking (it isn't on my '03 CRV, the Mini is an '07), the center armrest has broken (it was replaced once under warranty), mirror lights don't work anymore, etc. I hope they have done a much better job on fit and finish in the new build.
