Vanos Solenoid Cleaning P0012 Code

I have a 2009 Mini Cooper Hardtop R56. A diagnostic code of P0012 came up after the check engine light came on. The light went off by itself after a few days.

It sounds like I need to replace or clean the Vanos Solenoid. What is the best way to clean the Solenoid?

If it is the exhaust solenoid, I believe it is in the front of the car, and easy to get to. I attached photos I found on the internet. I don't know if the intake solenoid is in the photo or not.

Did you pull to see if the old gunk clogged up the new ones. You might need to flush the engine and clean up that residue around the head inlet.

i flushed the engine and changed the oil and filter before putting the new ones in, its started to do this like divering like shake after abit now, if you pull off the cable to the solenoid it stops shaking and starts running normal.... its weird lol
