Need input on a cold start issue.

First off, I know this topic has been talked (or typed) to death on this forum but to be honest I don't feel like reading 20 pages of threads on it just to get a vague answer.

Now since that's out of the way...I need some help! For the past few days I have been getting random missfires on cold start. Once the car goes into closed loop everything smooths out. I am thinking HPFP but I am not 100% sure. The plugs are only 15K miles old and if it was coils or cam/crank sensors it wouldn't stop when the car warms up. I am about 89% sure on the HPFP because my SGII is picking up missfires on cylinders 1-4 and a random miss which typically indicates fuel. Plus I am getting a P15DF - High pressure fuel system, cold start: Pressure too low. What really has me second guessing myself is firstly that most HPFP problems seem to keep the engine from starting altogether and secondly the majority of cases seem to be on early N14's; not N18 LCI cars.

I just need some reassurance really.

BTW vehicle description and mods are in my signature

I bet ya a dollar it's the HPFP. My '11 threw the exact same codes when it died at 40 thousand miles.

My 11 MCS did the same at about 34k. Covered under the last bit of my factory warranty. The next thing you will see is harder starting, unable to rev through the misfires, half check engine light, bucking/cutting out, no turbo at times (limp mode). Those codes/symptoms sound so familiar.....I am 99.8% sure it is your HPFP taking a huge dump. I was able to limp mine to the dealer, and they replaced the HPFP for no charge. Hope you are as "lucky" as I was. And I REALLY hope that the new HPFP is of a "redesigned" nature, so that I don't have to face this issue again! Let us know what you find/experience, please.

My 2007 HPFP went out about 1.5 years after purchase. At first it just took a couple start button presses to start first thing in the AM then ran fine. I did the usual put injector cleaner in it. Finally it wouldn't start at all. I bet that's your problem and I think it's under warranty even if it's not.

Looks like the HPFP was the culprit. All signs pointed to it but I have a problem with second guessing my own diagnosis on my personal vehicles. I am quick to diagnose someone else's vehicle and I am usually right, but I always look for reassurance when it comes to my car. I picked up the part from the local Mini dealer for $190 after tax with my discount (I work for a local Toyota dealer.) The install went very smoothly once we figured out how to get the quick connect fuel line off without a special tool. The whole job took maybe 30 minutes tops.

BTW the extended warranty doesn't cover N18's as far as I know.
