Difference between GP2 and JCW alcantara steerinf wheel

Hey guys,

Just trying to get people opinion on the difference between the GP2 and JCW alcantara steering wheels. I've never held the GP2 wheel but I seen the alcantara in person a couple of years ago. Just wondering if the difference in thickness is noticeable. Also the pictures of the alcantara wheel online make the stitching look sub-par. Also checking on the durability of the alcantara over time.

Looking to buy one so want to get some opinions.

Thanks.

I have the alcantara wheel, shift ****, shift boot, e-brake handle and e-brake boot. The alcantara is of very high quality.

From my understanding, the only difference between the GP2 wheel and the JCW Alcantara wheel is that the top and bottom sections are alcantara on the JCW wheel, but leather on the GP2. The thickness is the same. You can factory order an all leather wheel (from the GP2). ECS tuning carries them, but they can still be ordered from any dealership (for a massive amount unless you get a deal).

Here is your info. Same thickness. Feels different as the one is all leather and one is alcantara / leather. Both feel really good in your hands coming from a JCW Standard thickness ( just red stitching ) wheel.

Thanks

One other thing - the GP2 wheel has red stitching; the JCW w/ alcantara has black.

I was under the impression that the GP2 wheel was slightly thicker than the normal JCW wheel.

Also worried about the durability of the alcantara. I have the shifter and it's great, but I've seen a couple of those alcantara pieces come off the wheel itself. There was one in the marketplace not too long ago...

They are thicker than the standard JCW wheel. But the same thickness as the alcantara wheel

Stock JCW Wheel with red stitching is the same thickness size of the Cooper and Cooper S. JCW upgraded Alcanata / Leather Wheel is thicker and so is the GP2 wheel, which are based off each other.

Alcantara just has to be properly cleaned. Don't use harsh chemicals like the other guy did. Think that why it damaged. See the cleaner.

I've had JCW Alcantara and JCW leather wheels and the leather one replaced an Alcantara one. The Alcantara looks nice and feels novel, but it's not as grippy as I expected - the leather one is definitely better for driving.

Both JCW wheels have a thicker rim than standard and a fractionally smaller diameter than stock (from memory, 355mm/14.0" against 365mm/14.2") and, most importantly, those thumb-locating recesses.

I have the GP2 wheel and love it. Def thicker and feels great. We also custom wrap the stock wheels in suede leather as a cost effective alternative. Hope to have more done by the end of the month.

Here is one stock wheel just wrapped in black leather with red stitching.
